A mistura final é explosiva e bem animada. (remixtures.com) permalink | |

Municipale Balcanica’s music arrives at “Folkworld”The reliable German magazine writes enthusiastic words about the CD “Foua” ("thanks" in Macedonian) : a mix of sounds that collects the Balkan inheritance, done by a melancholy delight in a journey that goes through a sea, the Mediterranean, that links two stories, two cultures and two countries, melting itself with the resonance and the roots of the group. The South of Italy, in particular Terlizzi, place of origin of the ten boys, and the Mediterranean sea join themselves to the Balkans in a CD that rides the centuries.
The magazine cites Dio è zingaro e Arlecchino(God is gypsy and Harlequin): in these two tracks the instruments play a crescendo, like in a dreamlike sequence, sometimes hilarious, like a storm of notes conjugated with the individual stories of every member of the group.
The band, composed of ten people, presents on the stage a music made of exuberance and research, that conjugates world music, rock, jazz, funk and is gaining Europe: as it is shown by lots of appearances in important international festivals and their songs broadcasted by radios from all around the world.
Meeting and participation are the goals of this music, like a huge party, like a big journey between dreams and sounds in a time with no time, packed in a CD "extremely recommended" by the German magazine, where you can find "the best record of Ha$va Nagila if compared to the thousands versions recorded in the last 35 years".
NEWS: Hava Nagila will be released in July in the collection "Gypsy Beat and Balkan Bangers 2" by the British label Atlantic JAXX, made by Russel Jones (Future World Funk)"
NEWS: Hava nagila sarà rilasciata a Luglio nella compilation “Gypsy Beat and Balkan Bangers 2” dall’etichetta Britannica Atlantic JAXX, compilata da Russel Jones(Future World Funk)”

Municipale Balcanica "Foua"Label: Ethnoworld; 2009; 2005
If you have read my other reviews of klezmer and brass cd’s, you might have noticed that it’s not easy to record a cd in this style that gets above the average. This Municipale Balcanica band from Italy is one of the few that goes much further than the standard middle of the road brass music. The band was formed in 2003 and they describe themselves as a band that collects the sounds from the east, the music of happiness and sorrow and melt them with the harmonies of their homeland. This Foua (Macedonian for thanks) is, and again I quote, a fairytale and a cry. And somehow that is exactly what it is. The cd is fascinating and sounds like a magical story told in music and words. It is a mixture of hardcore brass music with both emotional and happy twists. I love Dio E zingaro which starts with a women telling a story which ends in a chaotic mixture of brass and screaming. From the first song Arclecchino the band surprises me with weird twists, brilliant arrangements and most of all, energetic and beating brass music. It has female vocals in Bulgarian style, down to earth male vocals, swinging French melodies and intense Hebrew songs. Hebrew song? Yes, this band did have the courage to record Hava nagila in such a way that it gets high above all the thousands of other versions I heard during the past 35 years. Foua is a must have cd for all these people who are into brass and like chaotic, inventive and powerful music. Highly recommended!
